La La La Motorcycle

I know I posed in our Christmas letter that Audrey got tubes put in right before we moved in October.  She only had 1 ear infection, but she had hearing loss in her right ear.  Because of her hearing loss she was delayed in her speech.

You know as a mom it is so easy to compare what other kids do to what your own are doing.  Audrey has always had her own timeline for thins and it doesn't always meet up with mine.  For instance, she didn't start walking until the weekend before her 18 month check-up.

So, when I noticed that she wasn't talking like other kids her age were I really tried not to get to worried about it. My mom, being a speech path, encouraged me to get her tested, just to see if there was anything we needed to start doing.

I called and got us an appt for her to get tested in January. The month of December she took off with her speech. It was like she never had any issues at all! She was finally putting 2 words together. Repeating everything we were saying. It was amazing the progress she made on a daily basis with her words.  I thought many many times to call and cancel her appointment. I didn't want them to think I was just some overly cautious parent, but I decided to keep it just in case.

She did great at her evaluation. The speech path was awesome.  It was so cute to see her interact with someone other than me. (Which if you have the pleasure of being able to hang around Audrey you know what a treat that is :) ) There was one thing he asked her to do.  She had 4 different objects sitting on the table. He would ask her to pick up the ball and hand him the car.  This was to see if she could handle to tasks at once.  He asked her to do it 2 times and on the 3rd time she just looked at him and said "No".  It wasn't mean, it was just, I'm tired of doing this, lets do something different. They said that she was a little behind, but not enough to enroll her in their program.  Before they left they gave us some great tips on how to help her learn new words, and other things to do to help reinforce her language.

So, to explain the title of my blog today. Audrey is in a bad habit of calling Luke, Suke.  She can say the "L" sound, but has a hard time with it if it is the first letter.  So, I have been trying to work on it. I will say la la la Luke. Then she will say la la la Suke.

Well, Sunday we were driving home from church and a motorcycle passed us. BTW Audrey LOVES motorcycles. Anytime we see one she yells "Motorcycle!!!".  Back to the story, a motorcycle passes us and I hear her say " La La La Motorcycle".  Sweet sweet Audrey!!! Always keeping us on our toes!!
